EBSA 2010 Presidents’ Message
Welcome to Evanston Baseball and Softball Association. Registration for the 2010 house league season is underway. Please click here to register online. Alternatively, please print this document to register by mail.
Last season we had 1500 boys and girls playing baseball and softball. Our 2009 season was a tremendous success at all age levels in both our house and travel leagues. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our boys and girls playing EBSA.
We hope you had plenty of opportunity to come out and watch the games, including the baseball and softball tournaments we hosted in 2009, which brought in teams from neighboring communities. As always, our sincere thanks to the City for their continuous support, including their outstanding field maintenance throughout the season. We also hope you enjoyed our new electronic scoreboards on fields J1-J14 at James Park. We received many positive comments. The scoreboards certainly add to the buzz and excitement at James Park on game days.
We are excited for the opportunities 2010 brings for EBSA. This season we brought on Joe Knudsen as EBSA’s Player and Development Coordinator. Joe is a member of the ETHS Varsity Baseball coaching staff. Joe’s experience and demeanor with the kids will be a tremendous asset to EBSA. Keep an eye on our website and for EBSA emails for the numerous player and coach instructional clinics that Joe will be heading up.
We are always in need of dedicated volunteers. If you love EBSA like we do and are interested to get more involved at any level, please contact us to discuss openings.
Thank you all for your continued support and passion for EBSA.
Play Catch!

INFORMATION REGARDING EBSA TRAVEL BASEBALL
What follows is some information that hopefully will assist you in deciding whether this option is appropriate for your family.
Eligibility:
To be eligible to tryout each player:
1. Must register and play in the EBSA house league;
2. Shall not miss more than a week of the travel season after Memorial Day and shall be present during the LSFBL tournament week at the end of July. For example, a week at Camp Echo is acceptable. However, two week Camp Echo trips or other longer family vacations, etc. means that a player may not tryout;
3. Those players trying out for the U12 Cooperstown teams must live within the District 202 school boundaries OR have played EBSA the previous year.
Team Formation: At the tryouts, the travel committee will evaluate the players in at least five categories: hitting, infield defense, infield throws, outfield defense and outfield throws. Players may bring their own bat to the tryouts. Thereafter, two teams of 12 to 13 players each will be formed - one is generally considered the A team and the other the B team. These teams will play in different divisions of the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League.
Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League: EBSA is a founding member of the newly formed LSFBL which includes the following communities: Evanston, Wilmette, Northbrook, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Lake Forest, Glenview and Park Ridge. It will be a competitive league where wins and losses are tracked and a playoff tournament occurs the last week of July. The season will start in early June.
Additional Tournaments: Each team will play in two additional weekend tournaments. Often times these are scheduled for Memorial Day weekend and possibly for July 4th weekend. The U12 teams will play in a week long tournament in Cooperstown, New York from July 2nd through the 9th.
Cost: The travel fee is $325. The fee includes the full uniform, LSFBL fee, umpire cost, coach expenses, tournament fees and equipment. The Cooperstown tournament fee (U12 teams) is separate and apart from the $325. It is estimated that the Cooperstown fee will be between $900 and $1,000 additional. Scholarships are available through EBSA.
The bottom line is that the travel teams play at a high level of competition and require a strong commitment from both player and their family. Basically, your summer through the end of July will consist of many trips to James Park and surrounding suburbs . . . and a lot of baseball. The games are fun and exciting. For those looking to continue playing baseball at a higher level beyond house league, then this may be an option. In addition, EBSA runs a July Ball league which is competitive baseball in a more relaxed environment that continues competing after the house league is done. EBSA will form as many July Ball teams as there are interested players and coaches. These teams play each other as well as teams from Kenilworth, Winnetka and Wilmette. There are no tryouts for July Ball. More information on this league will follow during the House League Season
